A recent study from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) has revealed that a growing number of mums are returning to work once their youngest child is back in school.
79% of mums with children aged 6 to 14 in 2010-2011 were in the labour force (up 2% from the 2006-2007), and just over half of those mums (55%) were working part time, with 10% being available for, and wanting to, work more in 2010-2011.
Two-thirds of working mums with children below 6 years of age were working part-time.
But as any mum knows, work doesn’t stop when you step out of the office. A 2006 study revealed that mums employed part time spent an average of 8 hours and 34 minutes every day looking after their children, and full-time employed mums spent 6 hours and 39 minutes each day caring for them.
